Adventures at camp...

Even though the days kept getting hotter and hotter, we had a great end of the week.  We were able to dig up a couple of features including a pocket of eggshells.  

We did a flotation sample and uncovered a number seeds. 

 Then it just got really hot!

On Friday we braved the oppressive heat and had our Archaeology Olympics!

Among other things there was sprinting....

and more sprinting....

and some tool use.

And finally the victors received their awards.  The runners' up received the Golden Rock Award.

And to the winners went the coveted Golden Flake Award.

Not to be forgotten, Cat received a Golden Rock Award for being a great supporter and an exceptional Counselor in Training.

Ms. Shary and Ms. Kelly would like to thank all of the campers for a wonderful week. We had a great time and were happy to have such a great group of campers to work with!

Day 3!

On the first day of camp we were able to search the school grounds and locate some old locations. Our walk started going down the road to the school cutting of at a maintenss road leading into the forest. We had a very long walk through the woods seeing old items in the forest. In the afternoon we went to see an old hoarse graveyard. We excavated dirt (not digging up the body) to see where the dirt became softy. We logged the gravestones to see what name and how old they were and if they belonged to Mr. Hitt. At the end of the day we all went to the stable house thus bring me to write this blog. The adventure to me will hope to continue tomorrow. As for me, I have to get home.

Welcome to the Middleburg Archaeology Camp blog!  This is a place where campers and staff will be posting about their activities and discoveries while at the camp.  It's a great way for friends and family of campers to see what we're doing during the day.  Check in throughout the day, we'll post as often as we can.  I can't wait to see what discoveries we'll make next week!
